Ideas
Below are all my ideas for this
project as well as my final ideas and small pieces of research required to
finalise my choice for this project. I will start by looking at a wide range of
multi-camera usage and then move on to my final idea, after that I will be
moving on to look at some legal and ethical problems that have taken place in
the area I am looking into before finally looking at any issues I myself could
have personally with this project when putting it together in planning and production.
Stage Shows
Strictly Come Dancing
Plays/ Pantomimes
I felt a good place to start for a project such as this would be to look
at a very common way for multi-camera production to be used which is in the
production of live performances. live performances use multi-camera to show
different angles of the stage, audience and performers often using around 8
cameras in a performance. It is necessary for these productions to use multi
cameras as without them they would not be able to grasp the full effect of the
show and its effect on the audience.
Soap Operas
Eastenders
Coronation Street
Next,
I looked at soap operas, these kinds of shows require multi-camera usage as
they tend to be shot from multiple angles to show the reactions of people’s
faces and to get multiple angles of what is taking place in the shows. these
kinds of shows attract an audience as the viewers tend to be drawn towards the
drama and characters personalities (wild and extreme). without the use of
multi-camera, the show would come off as less dramatic as they would not be
able to get everyone’s reaction to an event and capture everyone effected by
what is taking place in a scene.
Talk Shows
Room 101
Bake Off - An Extra Slice
The
final style of show I decided to investigate was chat shows. I felt these are
important as they require multi-camera usage as a lot of these style of shows
are performed live much like a life performance, as a result the muli-camera
package is important as its needed to grab all the reactions of everyone
involved such as the hosts and guests and audience, these kind of shows are successful
not just because of the jokes that are told but the reactions of everyone who’s
listening. the cameras are also used to focus on specific reactions as well as
to focus on 1 person talking at any given time.
All
these shows use multi-camera to help their production. they all have
similarities and differences that help determinate the differences in the type
of she we are watching. this is shows when we look at the differences between
live performances and chat shows. both show types are in from of a live audience.
however, in a live performance the people performing are just actors or
performers playing characters or showing off a skill and are playing roles on a
stage in front of a large audience, on the other hand, a chat show is live but
the people presenting are real people, not actors and they audiences are often
smaller. this means they are behaving more naturally and speak in more
realistic manors. in a live performance they are performing something such as a
skill, talent or acting for entertainment. Chat shows feature real people
sitting down talking and having conversations. a soap opera differs to both as
they are not recorded live but filmed and then taken to be edited together for
a final show ready to be shown on tv. they are played after recording and take
a bit longer to shoot as they have opportunities for retakes and adjustments in
front of cameras.
My Ideas
Cooking Show - Bake Off
Concept:
Contestants
compete in a cooking show where they are tested on different cooking categories
and are given challenges to test their skills in the categories. The point of
these shoes is to inspire people to make also to offer the comedic opportunity
to laugh at the failed cooking attempts shown on these shows.
Show Concept:
In
the Great British Bake-Off contestants are challenged in weekly baking
categories, they are given three challenges to complete related to the category
and must show their baking skills to impress the judges and win the
competition. like stated before, the purpose of this show provides an
opportunity to inspire more people to take part in baking as well as allowing
the audience to laugh at the failed bakes.
Why:
The
show itself exists as it is an entertaining competition that appeals to a wider
range of people. The prize for winning the show is simply the exposure of
winning the show. There is no prize money for getting 1st place. The show is
filmed at Welford Park in Berkshire. During the summer time. the show is multi camera
as there are multiple cameras moving around the baking tent filming all the
contestants and the judges as they take part in the show. As these are all
done live, it means it's multi camera as there are no retakes or pauses to move
the cameras around.
Bake Off - Demographic:
Age: 16-80
Gender: Female
Location: UK/ England
Careers: Working Class Jobs
Housing: Family Homes
Ethnicity/ Race: Non Specific
Chat Show - Room 101
Concept:
Three celebrity guests sit down and chat about recent events or certain selected topics relating to a wide range of categories dependant on the show. the point of these shows is to talk about recent events in the lives of celebrities to offer an insight into what new things could be coming out (TV, Films, Music). they also allow recent controversial popular topics to be discussed and looking at from different perspectives.Show Concept:
The shows concept is to give celebrities a topic where they state what they do not like about the topic or what annoys them bout the topic, these can include subjects such as pet peeves, modern life and young people. the point of this show is it allows a funny show that watching people vent and get frustrated about the topic at hand. it also can allow people to get wired up looking at what others have to say on certain controversial topics. Why:
The
purpose of his show is comedic entertainment. The show offers no sense of
competition and exists for humour and comedic value as a lot of the show’s
participants are comedians. The flying studio the show has been Elstree Studios
in Hertfordshire since the year 2014. The show is multi camera as it changes
shot angles from wide to mid-on all the shows guests and the host. As these are
all done live, it means it's multi camera as there are no retakes or pauses to
move the cameras around.

News O.B. - BBC
Concept and Show Concept:
One or two presenters sit in front of a camera and talk about current events in the world including weather, politics, natural deserters and celebrity news. (Often switching to different cameras to show different areas of the studio where different actions of the news are presented, such as weather and sports). These shows allow people to stay up too date into what is going on in the world providing a factual informative show. it is less about opinions and discussion, this is how I differs from the chat show style of presenting. Why:
The news exists to prove us with up to date information on what is going on in hot topics. The BBC news uses its platform to inform those about a wide range of topics relating to the country and sometimes spreads out overseas to talk about events taking place in other countries. The show is currently being filmed at the BBC's New Broadcasting House in Central London. The show is multi-camera as it chnages from the studio camera to live cameras in different locations to present other news stories. These changes can be in the same studio or off site depending on the story. The main presenters themselves may also have more than 1 camera on them to provide a wider showing of all presenters as well as a focus shot on each presenter to get the audience to pay more attention to what is being said. As these are all done live, it means it's necessary to use multi-camera as there are no opportunities for retakes or time to pause and move the camera around for different angles.

For
my final idea I will be aiming to make a show that is on par and like the show
Room 101. I have chosen this to be my final idea as I have a good understanding
on what I need to do to make it. I have a vison of a show with a similar concept
but an updated version by giving the show the format of a podcast to appeal to
a younger audience giving it the rebirth to keep it going. This experiment
should work in my favour as I understand where and what I must research to look
at this show in more depth to gain an understanding on how to best use
multi-camera production for my shoot as well as how the show is made so I have
a better understanding on how to write something with similar content. My next
move till be to look at my demogrpahic and gain a better understadning on who they are. narrowing this down will make sure i make a good show as it'll have a aimed audience to attract. aftet I will be investigating the Legal and ethical problems that have happened with
the format of show Room 101 falls under (chat shows) to understand what kind of
reputation the show has so I understand how to avoid such issues. I will also
be looking at ethical issues, so I don't make the mistake of offending my audience
as I want to make my audience to feel comfortable and happy watching my show of
choice. after looking at these aspects I will be looking at any potential
problems I could face when making my project during the planning and production
of my piece. this will better prepare me for when those times come so I can
increase the odds of my project having a positive outcome in the final video.

graph shows the level of Men aged between 16 and 25 that in live in London. To
see the full statistics, click on the link above. This graph shows that the
male rate living in London is quite high, this proves my demographic. After
looking at this I can move on forward with my project and go on to write about
my legal and ethical issues that could exist in my planning production. This demographic
is who I will be working on my primary research with to make sure my demographic
is interested in a show such as the one I plan to make. they will now help me
shape my idea into a production plan. As shown by my investigation into demographics, my target audience for this project will be student/ university culture.
Student/University Culture: Common attitude, belief and behaviour of university students. For
example; intentionally and indifferently missing out on lectures, postponing
tasks, sleeping in class, partying, living with roommates, etc.

Legal and Ethical Context
Legal: To be connected or allowed by the law.
There have been a lot of reports in the media of talk
show hosts being sued over sexual harassment charges. It is
important I understand this as the host for my show is also a male
and the stigma that these news articles have caused could
affect how people view my host. The negativity that these male hosts have
brought to the industry could give people a pre-negative view on my host and
what kind of person he could be. There is not a lot I can offer
to help prevent this negativity from potentially harming my show
other than reassuring my host has been given a background search
to confirm he is of no threat to women or men that are presented in this
company therefore meaning he is a safe and sensible choice of character to host
my show. Below are some examples of sexual harassment cases that I have used as examples in behaviour to look out for when selecting who I want to host my show.
Ethical: Relating to moral principle or the branch of knowledge
dealing with these. Not actually Illegal acts.
Although ethical problems are not a matter of legality and no one
could be sued for what they say. It is just an important to take this
into account as anything ethically
wrong can affect how my show is viewed and what trouble my
host and guest could get in if saying the wrong thing. A way to help with
ethically wrong statements is to show my video after watershed hours. This
would help filter the people watching my show and help avoid younger people
from accidently hearing inappropriate language and being inappropriate behaviour.
I also know my show is going to contain swear words and controversial
topics, because of this I would also but a warning in the description of
the show so before people watch they know that it contains this content. This
is also another reason for the showing of my show being based after the
watershed. These measures will help me prevent my show from getting
into trouble for anything inappropriate that can be said or done on
camera.
Constraints and potential problems
There a small number of problems that could occur, in this section
of my blog I will be analysing these problems and deciding on a solution. In
doing this I will be prepared when making and planning my video. to this I will look at the potential problem at hand and then I will be deciding on a solution to best plan for this project. I would like to plan for 3 problems that could occur that are worrying me because with those planned for I can move on to my paperwork and get ready for the production and editing needed to make the video I aim for.
Although I
have a location for this project planned, I do feel as if getting everyone to
my house could be a concern to plan for. As I am relying on people to not let
me down in this project and arrive at the location to shoot I will have to
carefully plan a way for them to get into my house. Due to limited time and
people I know, I was limited on cast and did not have enough time to get back
up actors if mine backed out at last minute which was a worry of mine. To plan
for this I chose close friends that I could rely on and also offered a small
amount of payment to reassure their help in my project.
Another problem that could occur with this
project is the scripting and talking to take place. As my project is mostly
improvisation I have written a script that benefits me as the producer and a
simpler script to help my cast understand what is happening on filming day.
This should help me and when my cast when it comes to filming to understand how
and what they want to do. I will be handing out these out a few days before
filming so my cast and camera assistant will have time to practice and prepare
for the production of my project.
My final main concern with this project is
my timing and write up, I fera in this project I could land in problems when it
comes to my planning and write ups as I’m having to adapt to a new format that
could give me a risk of falling behind and costing my grade in this project. To
help me overcome this I will be keeping my tutor updated on how my work is
going to help me stay on track. I’m also writing up a detailed CPA so I understand
exactly where I should be in this project and help reduce the chances of me falling
behind and costing me good grade in my work.
These are the main concerns I have with
this project as I prepare for my filming day and get ready for everything that
is going to be taking place over the next few weeks. To further my odds of a successful
video I will be careful when writing my paperwork in making it clear and
detailed to help give me the best chance of making a good quality video for my
project.

This is comprehensive, KJ. You have detailed the final idea and have addressed the legal issues and indeed problems that may occur. Read through and ensure that you have explained how you arrived at your final idea using your secondary and primary research.
